I want to give a shout-out to Isaac Hanson—who slays illustration and poetry under the handle @illustratedbyisaac—who couldn’t be a part of Part 1 today.
He, unfortunately, couldn’t be here because he and his wifey welcomed their beautiful baby boy, Atlas, into this world the same day as we recorded.
So, I’m using this opportunity to give him a quick shoutout because the dude deserves it.
He’s overcome so many obstacles in 2021. He’s challenged his comfort zones by letting go of perfection, constantly experimenting yet leveraging brand constraints, and being consistent (posting like 9 weeks straight) despite the stressful curveballs of life behind the scenes.
He’s an incredibly talented creative and the exact type of student I seek to work with.
You were missed on this one, brother, but we’re all incredibly proud of you and know you’re going to be an amazing dad.
Now, back to the program...this shit isn’t easy.
This is a big commitment of time, energy, and yes, money...but the growth and mindset shift students experience in their creative pursuits speak for themselves.
There are a lot of moving parts to this machine.
We have a hub for all of our communication—this is where I dish out weekly exercises and resources and where everyone can go for accountability.
We have once-a-month guest expert calls where students get a personalized presentation from heavy hitters in the game, such as past experts Lauren Hom, Liz Gray, James Martin, Tom Ross, Molly Jacques, Maggie Enterrios, Ian Barnard, Mye De Leon, and Donna Adi.
This time around, we’ve been lucky to get schooled by Eric Friedensohn (Efdot), Lisa Quine, and Grits Co.!
However, the real commitment is the weekly Hot Seat Calls. Every Tuesday night during the Program, we spend 2–2.5 hours going deep, celebrating wins, and navigating obstacles together as a family.
One big perk about being in the program is one of our Hot Seat Calls gets turned into a podcast episode...which is what you’re experiencing today!
There are no fancy mics or planned agendas.
It’s just 12 hungry creatives making time to meet outside of day jobs and life responsibilities in pursuit of their next big breakthroughs.
