Your Creative Path Starts With Sharing

You and I were created to create, but it’s far from easy sharing your creativity with the world.

People can be cruel when you become vulnerable—yet people can be receptive too.

This is a reminder to you and me that it's tough to have a fulfilling creative career by playing it safe and keeping your work to yourself. It’s important to share your creativity even if it means getting uncomfortable.

Before diving into my 3 reasons, I think it’s important to touch on what’s holding you back from sharing in the first place.

The Resistance

I didn’t share any of my art until I got to college—crazy right?. I grew up getting picked on a lot and the fear of it leading to more torture paralyzed me from sharing.

During college, a close friend of mine convinced me to share my work on Facebook after he discovered my sketchbook stash. The day I hit publish on a drawing was a terrifying time:

  1. What if people thought it was horrible?

  2. What if I became a failure?

Safe to say that hitting publish was huge for my creative career—who knows what I would be doing if I had lived my fears.

More recently I experienced this resistance when I started blogging. I was not only afraid of looking stupid and failing, but I had no clue where to start.

Not knowing where to start is like looking at Mt. Everest and feeling you have to climb it overnight. Blogging felt like a massive task and that it had to be perfect from the beginning.

Again, I faced my fears and took it one day at a time; realizing no one is perfect from the start.

It was rough at first, but blogging took my creative career to the next level.

I learned that the things you are afraid of doing the most are where
you’ll find the most growth.

So what’s holding you back right now?

By facing the resistance, you can reap the following rewards of sharing your creativity with the world.

Reason 1. Find Your Voice and Style

Art is a form of self-expression and shouldn't be tailored to what others want unless of course, it’s client work.

I was a victim of creating for affirmation until I started sharing my story through art.

Using my creativity as a vessel to share my victories and defeats shifted something in my mindset and my work.

I spoke with more clarity on my vision and began engineering my own unique style filled with perspective and tedious details.

Art revealed me to myself and sharing your creativity will reveal you to yourself as well.

Reason 2. Find a Need for Your Creativity

You have a creative gift and there is a demand for it somewhere in the world.

By overcoming the resistance and consistently sharing your work, you will inevitably stumble across that purpose which could be:

  1. Freelancing for clients.

  2. Building your own brand image.

  3. Providing that extra push people need through social media.

With the ease of sharing during these technological advances, your work is destined to be discovered over time.

You are literally one scroll or swipe away from making
an impact on someone’s life.

By not sharing your gift, you rob the world and those who need it most.

Start and continue to relentlessly share your creativity and you will find your purpose. However, by not taking action, you'll never make progress.

It's tough to have a fulfilling creative career by playing it safe and keeping your work to yourself.

3. Inspire Others in Your Shoes

The final reason to share your work is simply that you will inspire others to do the same.

Let me get this straight, not everyone will love your work. It’s impossible to please everyone but that’s not where our motives should originate.

There will be people who strongly dislike you and your work and that’s okay. Just know that if someone can dislike your work, then someone else can surely love it.

Don’t ever forget that.

By showing up and putting energy and passion into your work, you’ll attract others to your cause. The person who is sitting on the fence afraid to share their creativity just may get that extra push they need because you shared yours.

The Greatest Risk

You may think it’s a big risk to share your creativity, but in reality, you are taking an even bigger risk by not sharing.

Mark Zuckerberg said it best:

“The biggest risk in life is not taking a risk.”

By living in your fears and not sharing your creativity, you risk losing the chance of finding creative fulfillment. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by until it’s too late.

I implore you to start sharing now because later becomes never.

You deserve it and the world needs your gift, it just doesn't know it yet.
